MINUTES OF 623RD MEMBERSHIP MEETING - 1 APRIL 2006
Meeting called to
order at 0914 by President Jim Melton. Twenty-four members in
attendance.
Minutes of the meeting of 29 September 2004 were read by
David Cory, approved as read.
Treasurers report - Stan Duro - Balance
after San Antonio payments will be about $6,400. The Newsletter costs about $800
per issue. Treasurer’s report approved.
David Cory reported on the
condition of Ray Walker. Ray and Gail were in a traffic accident. Ray suffered
two broken legs, had casts on both and was bedridden. The casts are off and he
is in therapy - walks with a walker. Also provided Ray's hospital phone number.
Jim Simpson called the number immediately on his cell phone and the meeting was
interrupted while several members spoke with Ray.
Ed Beck was unanimously
re-elected secretary.
John London wants to resign as web master. Having
no other member with the expertise required to operate the site the membership
unanimously voted to "beg John to stay on as our web master." We discussed the
prospect of hiring professional help to operate the web site. The membership
would much rather pay John the comparable amount to keep up the web site than
pay an outsider.
Phil Urban reported that our flag, "the last U.S. flag
flown over a USAF radar site (Yoza Dake) on Japanese territory" was flown over
the Lackland AFB Basic Training graduation ceremony on 31 March 2006. This was
accompanied by suitable comments made during the ceremony. The flag and a
certificate recording the event were then presented back to our Association. The
membership voted to appropriate the necessary funds to procure a suitable
presentation case to display the flag and certificate. The case is to be on
display at future reunions.
Next Reunion:
Bob Seitzinger - "We're
here solely because of Hurricane Katrina. We should go back to Biloxi." Dave
Hammond has volunteered to host the reunion in 2008 in Biloxi.
Jim
Simpson - Volunteered to host the 2006 reunion in Colorado Springs and wants to
host there in 2008. Proposes to visit Cheyenne Mountain and the Air Force
Academy as part of the reunion.
David Cory - Prefers to go to Colorado
Springs in 2008 and Biloxi in 2010 to give Biloxi additional time to recover
from the hurricane.
Jack Hinton - Proposed that Oklahoma City/Tinker AFB
be considered for a future reunion.
Moved by Bernie Thompson, seconded by
Ed Hubbard, that the next reunion be held in September 2008 in Colorado Springs,
hosted by Jim Simpson. Motion passed twenty to four. Additional discussion
established Biloxi as first alternate and Oklahoma City as second alternate.
Gary Friesen was unanimously elected president. After Gary's acceptance
remarks he was ceremoniously installed by Jim Melton by presentation of the
623rd Air Control Flight hat and the hallowed Association Gavel.
Jim
Simpson was unanimously elected vice president.
All other board members
were re-elected or re-appointed.
Meeting adjourned.
